SG3 Small Diameter Rehabilitation: Contract C
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The purpose of the Sewer Group 3 Small Diameter Contract C is to upgrade the City’s existing small diameter sewers. The work will remedy defects observed during the Sewer System Evaluation Survey (SSES) and will reduce the amount of extraneous flows, infiltration and inflow (I/I) entering the system, as well as eliminating sanitary sewer overflow (SSO).Rehabilitation will extend the life of the sewer 50+ years while meeting the requirements of the First Amended Consent Decree (FACD) and Second Amendment Consent Decree (SACD).
WHAT KIND OF WORK WILL BE PERFORMED?
The City uses various techniques to repair old deteriorated sewer lines. The scope of this project involves the use of various “trenchless technologies,” including Cured-In-Place pipe (CIPP) lining and Pipe Bursting, as well as a more traditional method of repair such as replacement via open-cut excavation also will be utilized. In addition, pre-cleaning of the sewers will take place, point repairs will address localized pipe defects, and manholes will be rehabilitated.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT?
Structural upgrades to the system are necessary to replace old and deteriorated sewers to maintain the reliability of the sewers. Rehabilitation of the sanitary sewers reduces the amount of extraneous flows, infiltration and inflow (I/I) entering the system, in addition to reducing the amount of untreated sewage flowing into streams and creeks because of sanitary sewer overflows. As importantly, rehabilitation ensures long-term structural integrity of the system for 50+ years.
WHO WILL BE IMPACTED?
The work includes system improvements to small diameter sewers located in both the Utoy Creek and Camp Creek Sewer Basins. The City will be working within sewersheds UTCO7D1A, UTCO7D, UTCO7B, UTCO7C, UTCO7C1, UTCO184A, UTCO3, UTCO1A, UTCO1B4A, CMC01 and CMCA. The work affects Council Districts 4 and 11. Disruption of service, partial/temporary land and road closures, work on private property and noise may occur because of construction. However, we will notify impacted residents and businesses through mailings, doorhangers or face-to-face prior to work starting in the area. City representatives also will attend NPUs and community meetings to discuss planned work and provide periodic updates.
HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE?
Construction is anticipated to last approximately one year. While work is taking place, we will make every effort to minimize any impacts on residents and business owners.
