Project Wet Tools for Teaching
The program is designed for formal and non-formal educators of K-12 students:
- Classroom teachers in public and private schools
- Pre-services professors
- Resource agency educators
- Preschool and daycare teachers
- Youth organization leaders (i.e. 4-H, Scouts and Campfire)
- Homes-educators
- Zoo educational staff
- Local, state and national park rangers
- Museum, nature and science center instructors
The Curriculum
The Project Wet Curriculum and Activities is a collection of over 90 innovative, interdisciplinary activities that are heads-on, easy to use and fun.
Designed with a commitment to state, provincial and national educational standards, Project WET activities cover diverse topics and disciplines. The Guides addresses the following content areas.
- Water has unique physical and chemical characteristics
- Water is essential for all life to exist
- Water connects all the Earth’s systems
- Water is a natural resource
- Water resources are managed
- Water resources exist withing social contexts
- Water resources exist within cultural contexts
The activity Guide promotes critical thinking and problem solving skills and helps young people gain the knowledge they will need to make informed decisions regarding our water resource.
Goal of Project Wet
To facilitate and promote the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources through the development and dissemination of classroom ready teaching aids and the establishment of state and internationally sponsored Project WET programs.
Georgia Project Wet Workshops
Georgia Project WET offers three kinds of teacher workshops, provides staff development, in-service training for teachers and additional classroom teaching modules on non-point source pollution and groundwater contamination.
- Educator Workshops
- Facilitator Workshops
- Demonstration Workshops
- River of Words Project
(6-10 hours) For formal and non-formal educators K-12th grade. Participants receive training, the Project WET Activity Guide and additional water education resources. Certification is for teaching students.
(10-16 hours) For educators who are interested in adult training and can commit to two teacher training workshops yearly. Facilitators are the heart and soul of Georgia Project WET providing a link from the state and national Project WET to the classroom. Certification is for teacher training.
(2-4 hours) A facilitator provides one or two activities for an organization or group to acquaint participants with Project WET lessons and materials
(Art and Poetry Contest) Sponsored by the International Rivers Network and inspired by the US Poet Laureate, Robert Hass. This contest provides teachers and students with lessons on watersheds using poetry and art. National and state winners will have their work displayed for a year in Georgia through the Georgia “River of Words” exhibition sponsored by Georgia Project WET and supported by the Georgia Environmental Educational Alliance.
